Nowadays it is really common to hear about drug trafficking as well as the addictions this produce. As we know, it’s necessary to make actions so that we can control all the problems that are involved in drug trafficking. The situations we are facing now, is worse than ever and we need to take actions immediately.

More than 200 million people around the world consume drugs, which leads to an excessive increase in diseases, disintegration of families and communities deterioration. Also it causes, the spread of AIDS and hepatitis has also grown alarmingly because of intravenous drug use. Drug abuse is also related to the increase of crime and violence, corruption and illegal economic activities. The income from drug trafficking is also a reason for some of the bloodiest armed conflicts.

The UNODC is the guiding programme of all activities of the United Nations in this area. Formerly known as UNDCP, the UNODC helps to prevent situations that might encourage the production, trafficking and abuse of drugs and assisting Governments to establish structures and control, and provide technical assistance in control, promote the implementation of the drug control treaties and serve as a centre of expertise and source of global information strategies.

The UNODC addresses the world drug problem through a wide range of activities such as:
Illicit community prevention, treatment and rehabilitation with the participation of non-governmental organizations and civil society providing assistance for alternative development which offer new economic populations that depend on the production of illicit crops need to suppress the training and technology to combat drug trafficking and increase the provision of assistance to the business community and NGOs to help them create

  • programmes aimed at reducing the demand for drugs such as global
  • crop monitoring programme
  • law enforcement efficiency improvement opportunities-based programmes
  • programme world of assessment
  • programme of legal aid.
